This week our Premier indicated that the experts deemed it safe to allow hundreds to attend a horse race where it is likely that there will be drinking, celebrating and loss of judgment when it comes to social distancing, but it still is not safe to meet for worship. In plans for the next step, it will be ok to gather inside a pub, where there will also be drinking, and despite what the Premier thinks, when alcohol is consumed, the likelihood of singing rapidly increases. But with the next step the restrictions on gathering for worship are still harsher than for pubs.
I know it isn’t exactly the same, but I can’t help feeling a little like Peter and John as they stood before the authorities:
So they called the apostles back in and commanded them never again to speak or teach in the name of Jesus. (Acts 4:18)
But we will not be silenced, and tomorrow I will share our plans to meet together again. Please pray for our leaders, and particularly Daniel Andrews, that he will show favour to us so that we can meet and worship again safely.
But Peter and John replied, “Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him? We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.” (Acts 4:19-20)
