Welcome to Oakleigh Baptist Community

Oakleigh Baptist Community is a church based in the South Eastern Suburbs of Victoria Australia that meets as a local community and extends online across Australia and around the world. We welcome you to get to know more about us and join us in person or online from anywhere around the world.

We are called to be Disciples of Jesus. To love Him, to follow Him, to worship Him and to gather to worship with our Spiritual family. God is a Holy, Mighty, Gracious, Loving, Just and Forgiving God who alone is worthy of our worship.

COVID-19 UPDATE

As we return to stage 3 restrictions, we have returned to online services. It is easy to give way to fear and anxiety but we want to lead as the Church with a message of hope and healing. OBC Online and OBC Connect is our way of staying connected while restrictions are in place around public gatherings. No matter where we are, we can continue to worship, pray and hear God’s Word together. Join our Sunday service at 10:30 at OBC Live.

“If you are interested in visiting a church or even finding out more about who Jesus is and how a relationship with Him will change your life today and forever, then we would love to welcome you to join us.”

A Daily Message from Pastor Brad:

Throughout the history of the church, women and men have carried the signature of God on their lives, a visible indication that God is alive in them. That should be us, that needs to be us. But how?
‘Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you... 1 Cor 6:19-20.

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert & be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. Eph 6:18 This instruction is as important today as it was 2000 years ago. Please keep one another in prayer, knowing that you are being prayed for too.

Encouragement to Be Faithful

I’d like to encourage you with the words of 2 Timothy 1:3-10 because I have been repeatedly reminded as this crisis has unfolded that you and I are people of great influence. Our church family has such an opportunity to bring hope to many people who are feeling isolated, lonely, frustrated, fearful, anxious and so many other feelings as a result of this situation. And so this is what I want to say to you: Never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. What we are experiencing is difficult. It is hard. It is harder for some than others. But it is also an opportunity. This moment in time is a gift to us from our Father. God in His sovereign plan has given us this moment and we should embrace it for His glory.

In this passage Paul continues: With the strength God gives you be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News. For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this not because we deserved it but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time to show us his grace through Christ Jesus. And now he has made all of this plain to us by the appearing of Christ Jesus our Saviour. He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News. 2 Timothy 1:8-10

We have all lost things through this crisis. Some people far more than others. We’ve lost freedoms, friendships (even if this is only temporary), financial security, and for some there may be a human cost. And in all of these things, as a family, as the church, the body of Christ together, we should get around one another to make sure that no one goes without or is alone. But we should also remember that these things are only temporary and that our hearts and our eyes should be on what is eternal. And with the eternal as our focus we all have the opportunity to love others with the love of Jesus, to be messengers of hope and of life. I think that is what it means when The Holy Spirit, through the words of this letter, God asks us: “With the strength (I) give you, be ready to suffer for the sake of the Good News.”

So that is my prayer for you, for all of us, we are suffering there is no doubt about that, but my prayer is that we are ready to suffer for the sake of the Good News. I want you to know that I’m praying for each one of you. We are praying for each one of you because we love you and because God has appointed you at this time to be ministers of the Gospel, to be missionaries, fellow workers in the harvest fields and the fruit we are harvesting isn’t temporary and it won’t waste away. It is eternal and the rewards are eternal and the glory is God’s and His pleasure is on us. So beloved sisters and brothers, keep up the Good work. Keep loving people. Keep speaking positive words, words of life. Keep watching out for people and keep sharing the Gospel. Don’t be ashamed and don’t be afraid. What you are doing isn’t unnoticed and it won’t be unrewarded.

How are you holding up?

How are you holding up?  Are you hanging in there?  These seems to be common questions that I’m asking and being asked in these crazy days.  It is remarkable how things have changed in such a short space of time. But in the midst of all this madness, I want to write to you, brothers and sisters in the Lord, to encourage you because we have so much to be excited about. This is what we are commanded to do, to encourage one another. So I’m writing to encourage you, to pass that on. ...

Building a house of worship

Exodus 25:1 – 9.Recently I spoke about how we should always come to worship, come to church, or indeed every time we spend time with Jesus, with an expectation that God wants to be powerfully present with us.  One of the reasons I’m so confident of this, is because God has provided us with a template for how we are to come to worship, not religiously, but confidently that God is there and longing to touch our lives in a powerfully meaningful way. When I was growing up, my parents...

Do you see God’s Signature?

Exodus 33:15 – 23. Every week, when we gather for church, we are doing something so important that quite literally lives are at stake.  Can you imagine being a surgeon, coming to work every day with people’s lives resting on you?  I want to suggest to you that it is even more important for you and I to have this understanding when we think about how we gather for worship, whether it is online, like it has to be right now, or in a building, I believe there is more at stake than we...

Are you hungry for the presence of Jesus?

Exodus 33:1 – 18.If I told you that God is waiting to meet with you in a way that is powerful, real and life-changingly meaningful, would you believe me? I’m convinced that this is true and today I want to share with you how and why you should always come to God, especially when you come to a time of worship, in a way in which you expect Him to move powerfully in your life.Firstly, let me tell you about a morning a few years ago. It was a Sunday morning, and this week I decided to...
